How our body coordinates in unconscious mind and sleep ?

Hello friends, I am back with my first topic. As u all have read my intro you all know for which field I am writing. This is my first topic for u all. Today I am going to give you some idea about what happens to your mind during your sleep an when you are unconscious.

Sleep and Unconscious mind
There are some questions which are always running in your mind. Like, how you sleep? What happens to your body when u sleep? Why you get to sleep? Why is it necessary to sleep? How you get dreams? What are they, real or fake? Do they come true? etc. I am going to answer every question of yours further in this article. Keep on reading. It’s interesting.

What is the unconscious state of mind ?

An unconscious mind is a reservoir which is filled with feelings, thoughts, urges, and memories that are outside of our conscious awareness. Most of the contents of the unconscious mind are unacceptable or unpleasant, such as a feeling of pain, anxiety, or conflict. Unconsciousness continues to influence our behavior and experience, even though we are unaware of these underlying influences.

Three Layers of The Mind
Our mind can be represented as an iceberg. This part which is above the water is conscious awareness while everything below the water represents unconsciousness. Conscious awareness is only the tip of the iceberg. The rest of the information that is outside of conscious awareness lies below the surface. Many of our feelings, desires, and emotions are represented or held out of awareness. Why? Because they were simply too threatening. Sometimes these hidden desires and wishes make themselves known through dreams and slips of the tongue.

What is sleep ?

Sleep is a naturally recurring state of mind and body, characterized by altered consciousness, relatively inhibited sensory activity, inhibition of nearly all voluntary muscles and reduced interaction with surroundings. It is distinguished from wakefulness by decreased ability to react to stimuli but is more easily reverse than the state of being comatose.

What are the different kinds of sleep ?

There r 2 kinds of sleep :-
  • NREM
  • REM

NREM Sleep ( non-rapid eye movement sleep ) :-

Graph of Stages of NREM Vs Hours of Sleep

This is the type of sleep when you don’t dream. You think in NREM sleep, but it is usually simple and broken into parts. There are 3 stages of NREM sleep. They are:-

  • stage N1 sleep :

This is when you go from being awake to being asleep. This type of sleep doesn’t restore your body. Although you may be asleep, you may also still be partially awake.

  • stage N2 sleep :
This is deeper than stage 1 and may help your body recover.

  • stage N3 sleep :
This is also called delta sleep. Delta sleep is a very deep sleep that helps your body restores and recovers.

REM sleep (rapid eye movement sleep) :-

REM sleep is the type of sleep when you dream. Your eyes move very fast, which gives this type of sleep its name. During REM sleep, your muscles can’t move. You can only move your eyes and breathe in this stage of sleep.

In most people, REM sleep happens every 90 minutes throughout the night. The first REM period may only be 5 minutes long. The second is about 10 minutes long and the third is about
15 minutes long. For most people, the last ream of the night can last for 30 to 60 minutes. You may or may not remember dreaming, but everyone dreams.

The above graph shows what a normal sleep looks like. You normally enter stage N1 sleep and then work way into the deep stage N3. REM sleep follows this. The person from the graph above had 5 periods of NREM an REM during the night.

Thank you for reading this article. I am going to write about the next part of this article related to dreams in my next article. Till then bye bye. Keep on reading my articles, follow " Creative Bloggers of Ind " and share your views in the comment section. Have a good day.
