Are you afraid of sleeping ?

Hello friends,

               I am again back with something new and interesting for you all. By the way, you all may be laughing at this moment because you all think that I have gone mad. Who is afraid to sleep? It is the best part of the day. We are always sleeping, maybe in class, or in the office or bed. But guys I am not mad. I am asking something which is most possible.

               Okay so if you all are still not convinced for this then lemme ask you one question, does it happen like in the middle of the night you suddenly get up with a lot of sweat on your forehead and face? Ya, now you may all think that I am a logical person and I am not mad. Thank you, thank you. Now let’s be a little serious and get into the point. So it is like when you get most weird and scary dreams you wake up suddenly. These are called nightmares. So I am going to discuss this topic.

What are nightmares?

               Nightmares are vividly realistic; disturbing dreams that rattle you awake from a deep sleep. They often set your heart pounding from fear. Nightmares tend to occur mostly during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Because periods of REM sleep become progressively longer as the night progress, you may find experience nightmares mostly in the early morning hours.

What causes nightmares?

               Nightmares in adults are often spontaneous. But they can also be caused by a variety of factors and underlying disorders. They are:-

  • Having a late snack can cause a nightmare. As it can increase metabolism and signal the brain to be more active.
  • Some kinds of medications also are known to contribute to nightmare frequency.
  • Drugs that act on the chemical in brains such as antidepressants and narcotics are often associated with nightmares. Non-psychological medications, including some blood pressure medication, also causes a nightmare.
  • Withdrawal from certain medication or substances like alcohol and tranquillizer may trigger nightmares.
  • Sleep disorders like sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome cause nightmares.
  • There can be a number of psychological; triggers that cause nightmares in adults. For example, anxiety and depression can cause adult nightmares. Post-traumatic stress disorder also commonly cause people to experience chronic, recurrent nightmares.

What are the effects of nightmares on health?

               Nightmares become much more than bad dreams when they have a significant effect on your health and well being. Among people who experience nightmares, those who are anxious or depressed about the experience and suffer even more psychological ill effects. Although the relationship is not understood, nightmares have been associated with suicide. Because nightmares may have a significant impact on your quality of life, it is important to consult a medical professional if u experiences them regularly. Sleep deprivation which can be caused by nightmares can cause a host of medical conditions, including heart disease, depression and obesity.
