Who doesn't want to live longer? We are all busy building our careers and after all that hard work we would definitely love to reap the benefits of our life for a longer duration. All of us know that death is inevitable but we can at least try to delay it. So here are 3 tips which definitely help you to live a longer and healthier life.

  • Restrict your diet
It has become a common belief that eating healthy food helps you to remain healthy. Thanks to the internet and social media, the current generation or more specifically the next generation is becoming more and more health conscious. But sometimes, these over health-conscious people fall prey to some common myths and misbeliefs. For example, moderately fat people become suddenly obsessed with weight loss techniques that they start skipping meals and avoiding everything that contains fat.

This has its own adverse effects as fats are necessary for our diet and they should not be completely cut off. But let's not sway away from our topic of discussion and let's find out the answer to our question - how can restricting your diet actually prolong your lifespan ??

When you consume less food, your body goes into the state of a partial food deprivation even though it might be very slight. The caloric reduction can induce the reduction of IGF-1 (Insulin-like growth factor-1, it promotes anabolic state in the body) and hence it leads to lower cell growth and metabolism which possibly leads to lower cellular damage.

Caloric deprivation also increases specific proteins called Sirtuins in our body. Sirtuins promote DNA repair and prevent various genomic degenerations which are bound to occur in old age. Hence by delaying the process, it can actually increase your lifespan.

Red wine is supposed to increase the level of sirtuins in our body so a limited amount is actually good for our health. But you shouldn't drink too much of it because as all of us know alcohol has its ill effects.

  • Perform yoga or mild exercises every day

So let me make it clear before proceeding any further in the discussion that I am not going to ask you to do 50 pushups every day or run 5 km every day to stay fit. If you still want to do it you may but it's not very necessary unless you are obese. Simple exercises taught by our physical education teachers in our schools are enough. Or you can even start doing yoga.

Now let me explain what is the logic behind this. We know that WBCs provide immunity to our body. These WBCs are mostly found in the lymph and lymph flows through blood vessels. Unlike blood vessels, lymphatic vessels don't have any heart to pump the lymph through them. Hence, they are mostly dependent on muscular contractions to push the lymph forward. Mild exercises or yoga cause most of the muscles to contract and develop a good lymphatic circulation and hence improve the overall immunity. Yoga also improves breathing and causes mood elevation which ultimately leads to better mental health.

Now you may ask why I haven't asked you to perform heavy exercises. Well, heavy exercises also cause muscular contractions but they also cause much wear and tear and cause fatigue. Our body spends a significant amount of energy to repair those damaged tissues. This causes energy deficit and increases our hunger. So our motive of restricting our diet goes in vain. So unless you are too overweight or crave for the absolute perfect 6 pack abs like an athlete there is no need for you to perform so heavy exercises.

  • Drink green tea or other antioxidants
We all know that oxygen is necessary for our survival. All the cells in our body require oxygen to carry out metabolic activities. But oxygen too has its side effects. With oxygen sets in the process of oxidation and this causes heavy and permanent damage to cells irrespective of healthy or diseased cells.

Though oxidation is a necessary process in our body to clean up the diseased and senescent cells, its impact on our healthy cells can speed up the ageing process. We can slow down this process by taking antioxidants. Green tea is one of the finest antioxidants and its consumption has proven benefits like cholesterol reduction and better skin texture.

Vitamin E is also a very good antioxidant. Green leafy vegetables, peanuts, sunflower oils are also good sources of vitamin E. This can delay ageing in long-term consumption. Vitamin E capsules are also commercially available in the shops.

So these are a few basic tips which all of us can follow in our daily life.
