Here I am back after a long time. Hope you all going well. In my previous article, I talked about PHARMACY.
Now the question comes, What is PHARMACY? Why we should know about pharmacy? What does a Pharmacist do?
Basically, whenever we use the term pharmacy, we mean only a medical store, isn't it?
Actually, pharmacy means “ THE SCIENCE AND PRACTICE OF PREPARING, STORAGE AND DISPENSING OF MEDICINAL DRUGS’. It is a Greek word; pharmakon=DRUG OR MEDICINE.
The first pharmacy attached hospital was found in PHILADELPHIA on 1752.
JONATHAN ROBERTS was the first hospital pharmacist, 1755.
PROF. WILLIAM PROCTER is known as ‘FATHER OF MORDEN PHARMACY‘
PHARMACOPOEIA is the book contain a list of medicinal drugs with their effect and directions for uses. Every country has their own pharmacopoeia. Latest Indian pharmacopoeia is INDIAN PHARMACOPOEIA 2018 OR IP 2018
In simple words, we can say knowledge about pharmacy can help you take medicine or can help you to not take the wrong medicine, and of course doctors, consultancy is required.
In general, PHARMACIST means medical shop keeper. But actually, a pharmacist is not only a shopkeeper. This field has many options with many opportunities.
PHARMACIST distribute prescriptions drugs to individuals and also advice patient related to dosages of there medicine, they also give advice medical staff on the selection and effects of drugs. Some pharmacist is specialized in specific drug therapy area. Other then that some pharmacist keeps a confidential computerized record of patients, some are involved in research studies, and some are joining the teaching profession.
So we can say that a career in PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE is full of opportunities.
THANK YOU
SEE YOU SOON
